Embracing Pro-Ageing Through the Female Gaze by Chloé Machin

As the conversation around ageing continues to evolve, we are beginning to see a powerful shift in how women choose to care for themselves.

Where beauty was once defined by anti-ageing and erasing the visible signs of time, we are now entering an era that celebrates change.

It’s no longer about reversing age—it’s about embracing it.

This shift is at the heart of the Pro-Ageing movement, and it's something I see every day in my studio.

Pro-Ageing is not about chasing youth, but about honouring the way our skin, body and energy change as we move through different chapters of life. It’s about supporting those changes with intention, care, and a mindset that’s rooted in respect for the self.

A big part of this movement is about shifting the lens through which we see ourselves.

Much of the beauty industry has been built around the male gaze—the idea that we should strive to look youthful, smooth, symmetrical, and effortless at all times.

The female gaze, however, asks something very different. It invites us to look at ourselves through a more grounded and compassionate perspective. It encourages us to notice how we feel in our bodies, how we care for our well-being, and how we hold space for rest and softness. Through this lens, beauty is about alignment. It becomes something we define for ourselves, not something imposed on us.

This idea feels especially relevant as we approach Mother’s Day—a time that naturally brings reflection on how we give and receive care.

If you are a mother, have been blessed by mothering, longing for motherhood, or simply hold a nurturing spirit within you, the tendency to prioritise others is deeply ingrained. And while that love is powerful, remember this vital truth: your own wellbeing, at every age and stage, is not a luxury but a necessity.

It begins with the compassionate act of tending to yourself first.

Over the past 19 months in my Bondi Junction studio, I’ve witnessed how deeply women are craving more than just skincare—they’re craving space. Space to rest, to reconnect, to feel seen without needing to perform. This is the foundation of my Signature Treatment.

Designed as a holistic, non-invasive alternative to injectables, the treatment is structured to work with your body—not against it.

Through a combination of lymphatic drainage, buccal massage, fascia release, and nervous system support, the Signature Treatment helps to reduce puffiness, release deep tension, sculpt the face, and most importantly—help you feel calm, centred and more connected to your body.

Yes, the skin glows. But it’s what happens beneath the surface that makes the biggest difference.

Stress, hormones, and emotional load all impact the skin and how we feel in it. And when our nervous system is dysregulated, no amount of skincare can truly bring lasting results. That’s why I’ve designed a treatment that blends both the physical and the emotional—because beauty is never just skin deep.

Pro-ageing is about working with what we already have. It's a practice in trust, in slowing down, and in letting go of the pressure to be anything other than where you are now.  It's about redefining what ageing looks and feels like, and choosing to care for yourself not because you're trying to fix something—but because you're honouring all that you've lived through.

This Mother’s Day, whether you’re gifting to someone else or choosing to nurture yourself, I invite you to experience a treatment that supports your body, calms your mind, and aligns with the natural beauty of ageing well.

Ultimately, how we choose to age is personal but when we choose to do it through the lens of our own gaze, with softness, intention and care — I sincerely believe, that’s where the true beauty lives.
