Winter Solstice: A Seasonal Reset for Your Nervous System by Chloé Machin

We’re already deep into winter here in Sydney, and this weekend marks the Winter Solstice—the longest night of the year. The chill is well and truly here, and with it comes an invitation to slow down. The solstice offers a quiet turning point—not just in nature, but within our bodies too.

While summer often calls us to expand, move faster and be outwardly focused, winter invites something different. It’s the season of rest, reflection, and replenishment. A time to pause, soften, and conserve. And just as the world outside slows down, our nervous system craves the same.

At this time of year, I find myself drawn to the rituals and practices that support stillness—the ones that create a sense of safety in the body.

Winter isn’t just about staying warm—it’s about reconnecting with ourselves from the inside out.

This is where nervous system care becomes essential.

Most of us are living in a constant state of low-level stress. We’re carrying emotional weight, overstimulation, and physical tension, often without even realising it.

When left unchecked, this can lead to fatigue, brain fog, jaw tension, inflammation, and a general sense of disconnection.

And in the colder months, that heaviness can feel even more pronounced.

What I’ve come to learn—both personally and through treating—is that your nervous system is always listening. It’s reading your environment, your pace, your breath, and your patterns. It’s responding to your thoughts, your stress, and your touch.

So if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, run-down, or not quite yourself, winter is a beautiful time to recalibrate.

My Signature Treatment was created with this seasonal rhythm in mind. It’s not a high-intensity facial. It’s not about stimulation or dramatic results. It’s about presence.

It’s about working with the body’s natural systems to bring you back into balance.

We begin with grounding—breathwork and intentional stillness to signal safety to the nervous system.

From there, I use a combination of lymphatic drainage, buccal massage, and fascia release to support circulation, detoxification, and tension release.

These techniques are deeply supportive for both the skin and the nervous system—especially during the winter months when our bodies tend to hold more.

The treatment room is warm, quiet, and still. The lighting is low. The pace is slow.

It’s a space to drop out of your head and back into your body.

A space where your nervous system can soften, your skin can breathe, and your energy can settle.

Winter, in its essence, is not about doing more. It’s about doing less—with more intention. It’s about tuning in rather than pushing forward.

And in a culture that often celebrates productivity over presence, choosing rest becomes a powerful act of self-care.

So as we move through the solstice and into the heart of winter, I encourage you to ask yourself:

What can I let go of? What can I make space for? What would it feel like to give my nervous system a break?

This season is your permission slip to slow down. To listen. To reset.
And to let your body and mind receive the care they deserve.

If your body is asking for stillness, I’d love to welcome you into the studio.

Together, we’ll create a treatment experience that supports your skin, your energy, and your nervous system through the season ahead.
